      On 7 July 2006, Professor Solomon Victor, an internationally recognised cardiac surgeon, died in Chennai, India. He was a strong and long time supporter of Heart, Lung and Circulation journal. He was not only an outstanding cardiac surgeon but also a humanitarian, philosopher, botanist and evolutionary biologist. In this issue we publish an obituary for Dr. Solomon Victor, written by one of Britain's most well known cardiac surgeons – Donald Ross of London.
