Background: In the prediabetic stage, hyperinsulinemia or insulin resistance is thought to be
closely associated with oxidative stress. An excess formation of reactive oxygen species
(ROS) impairs endothelial function. Tea catechin inhibits NADPH oxidase activation
and increases the protective effect of endothelial cells on the arterial wall by stimulating
the endothelial formation of nitric oxide. The aim of this study was to investigate
whether catechin could improve endothelial dysfunction and prevent hyperglycemia,
hyperinsulinemia and blood pressure elevation in type 2 diabetic rat model.
