The Dor Procedure: Alfred Hospital Experience

Introduction: In 2005 the prevalence of heart failure in the Australian population was 263,000. As patients age, the incidence of heart failure increases from 2.5% in those aged 55–64 years to 8.2% in those age >75 [

]. The recent STICH (Surgical Treatment for Ischemic Heart Failure) trial concluded that “the findings of this study do not support the use of surgical ventricular reconstruction in the population studied” [

]. This study was in contradistinction to other studies including the RESTORE which showed SVR could be performed with low 30-day mortality (5.3%), improvement in ventricular function and good five year survival 68% [
